Stage 8

On Mark’s article called “Trumpshould claim victory on the border and abandon his foolish wall”, Mark gives the idea that immigration is not of a big deal in 2017. However, American people has always seen it that way no matter what that is why they voted for Mr. Trump in the first place. Offer more jobs to the American people because “immigrants steal their jobs.”
Additionally, if the percentage of people apprehended by the border patrol is lower means that illegal immigrants evaded patrol officers not necessarily, because they are not coming in. American people can go either way.
It sounds interesting that wealthy people willing to pay a million to receive citizenship and so to stop poor people from coming into the US. It makes me think of a civilization with only people to the level of Donald Trump, speaking economically.
I agree with Mark that Donald will be affected if he can’t achieve his promises and if he wants to run for another 4 years. Americans will opt to another candidate.

Blog stage 7

In April 28, 2017, the LA Times published an article titled “Economic growth stumbles to worst rate in two years, underscoring Trump's challenge” written by Jim Puzzanghera. He states that during the first 100 days of Trump in the white house the economy is increase 0.7% while the economy grew at 2.1 annual rate last year. According to Puzzanghera Trump’s actions are not boosting the economy up. He compares the economy to the one from 2009 where the Great Recession ended and considers these days worse than to the first quarter of 2014 when the bad weather caused the economy to contract.
In this article, the author’s intended audience is the medium class or underpaid workers because they need to be aware of economy changes in case of unexpected inflation as we see the author comments about the slow economic growth. I am expert nor close knowledge to economy but I think Trump should be trying to boost those percentages by cutting regulatory taxes, etc.

Jim Puzzanghera writes about business and economic issues from the Times’ Washington, D.C., bureau. He joined The Times in 2006 and won the paper’s Editor’s Award in 2009 for coverage of the financial crisis. He has worked in the nation’s capital since 1998 and is a two-time National Press Club award winner for Washington coverage.

Stage six

In Tavo’s article called “Is Trump vulnerable” Tavo discussed Trump’s ties with Russia. I am not sure if it is a summary with his own words or all of the author’s ideas. I liked the information provided and I got a clear a sense of what is happening with Trump and Russia but I think it is because I watched the news and I had background info of your topic.
Including different points of view will reinforce the argument even yours. I think Tavo needs to include additional sources, quote, author’s opinion, and names so the reader can corroborate the evidence and to convince the reader of what the author is stating is true or not. Also, it should be highlight if it is proven Trump has ties with the Russian Government how will the other two branches act, should Trump be impeached? Consequences in the short and long term.

Stage Five: Original editorial or commentary #1

On March 27th, 2017, the New York times published an article called: “The Republicans in Power: From ‘We Got This’ to ‘What Now?’ where the author Carl Hulse illustrates the inability of the GOP to replace the Obama care just like President Trump said “We couldn’t quite get there” even though during Donald Trump’s campaign he promised a lot of things among those promises were the substitution of the Obama care which in the past week Americans sensed the New Care Act as a fiasco and the overhaul of the tax code. Carl Hulse describes the GOP as a team not prepared yet to make huge changes in the government. He says: “The failure of the health care bill exposed inherent Republican weaknesses. As a party, they haven’t passed substantive legislation on their own since 2005 and the lack of experience was glaring.” Additionally, Trump declared he will change the tax code so his Health Care Act can meet the requirements. Hulse thinks it is a harder to change the tax code than to pass a successful care act.

Trump will not accomplish much without help from the Democratic party. However, trump will be pushing for what he thinks it is correct in consequence he will change his style and goals that the ones he had during his campaign. Personally, I agree with Hulse Trump will not make any good to the country without a backup plan, or reliable sources where he can propels his goals.

Stage Three: Critique an editorial or commentary from a national newspaper #2

March 7th, 2017, the Washington Post published an article titled “The TrumpWhite House is totally changing its tune on wiretapping and hoping you don’tnotice” In this article the author Chris Cillizza states President Trump declared via twitter that Obama had tapped his wires but Cillizza gets to the conclusions where Trump is making false statements so the congress can investigate the issue. Although Trumps wants the congress to investigate what  he had already stated his wires are tapped why would he want the congress to investigate? What Cillizza thinks is the best reason is that President Trump do not have the evidence to prove such claim but instead he just wants to make sure his wires are not being tapped.
This article is directed to all American citizens because it is about the President and his insecurities. Cillizza began his career at The Cook Political Report and, later, Roll Call prior to joining The Washington Post. For the Cook Report he covered gubernatorial races and southern House races. He wrote a column on politics for Congress Daily. During his four years at Roll Call, he reported on campaign politics from the presidential to the congressional level, finishing his time at Roll Call as the paper's White House correspondent. His freelance work has appeared in a variety of publications including the Atlantic Monthly, Washingtonian, and Slate. He has also been a guest on CNN, Channel and MSNBC. After multiple guest appearances on the network, he was named an MSNBC Political Analyst.

I do agree with Cillizza because before elections Trump tweeted several times against races, or discriminating, etc. Trump wants the world to know but he barely thinks what is right. In the other side, Trump is doing that because he knows people will agree with him of such claims. I would say Trump is really smart when he wants to get something done.

Stage Three: Critique an editorial or commentary from a national newspaper

January 25th, 2017, the New York Times published an article titled “Trump Orders aWall Built, but Congress Holds the Checkbook” the author Matt Apuzo discusses Trump’s plans to build a wall in the Mexico border. As the titles states, Congress plays a humongous role when taking a decision of such matters like building a wall that it will cost more than $20 billion. Mr. President Trump has ordered new policies on border security but it will take more than a pen. The author states that even if congress reject Trump’s order he will be able to get funds from the Government by two laws, the Economy Act of 1932 and the Feed and Forage Act. In comparasion President George Bush started the First Gulf War under this last act.

Matt Apuzo is targeting US citizens and members of the Congress because the author gives some ways President Trump can get the funds to build a wall without Congress’ approval. Also, the US citizens and mainly people who voted for him because they want to know how Trump is going to accomplish his proposals during his campaign.

Matt Apuzzo is a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter based in Washington. He has covered law enforcement and security matters for more than a decade and is the co-author of the book "Enemies Within." A graduate of Colby College, he joined The New York Times in 2014 after 11 years with The Associated Press. He teaches journalism at Georgetown University and once successfully argued a motion from the audience in federal court. The author’s background demonstrates that he is credible because of his experience in The Associated Press and at Georgetown University.

The author’s arguments seem to be questionable because the laws President Trump can use to get funds are specifically for certain uses like the feed and Forage act which states that allows the Military to spend extra money to protect national security. However, many in congress will oppose to the idea of Building a wall is needed for national security. In conclusion, I do not agree with the author because I think Trump will not be able to get funds from a third party nor from his pocket but there is a chance congress may accept.

Stage two - Federal appeals court rules 3 to 0 against Trump on travel ban

On February 9th, The Washington Post published an article titled "Federal appeals court rules 3 to 0 against Trump on travel ban."
Matt Zapotosky, the author, explains the effects of Trump's executive orders on immigration and the decisions of the Supreme court of the banning of seven Muslims countries.
During the first days of Presidency of Trump, he signed an executive action that allow new vetting procedures to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the US. Trump posted a tweet stating "the security of our nation is at stake" so far three of the eight judges of the Supreme court have denied this issue as a national security matter. According to the three judges the reasons presented for Trump do not present evidence that confirms the "banning" as security matter instead many believe it is discriminatory. If the executive order continues it will affect all legal foreigners and even green card holders at Universities.
